Quick Take

I found this to be an incredibly simple and quick system that really works. It has helped me to easily manage my notes and tasks in a fast-paced diverse work environment.

What Stuck with Me

The index, it’s all about the index for me. I am a paper note guy—as much as I have tried to make digital notes my go-to, I find myself reverting to handwritten notes in meetings. The challenge was being able to go back and search them quickly. Ryder Carroll solves that with the Bullet Journal method.

I create a “collection” for each critical recurring meeting at work and then follow the simple bullet notation for tracking tasks, notes, and events.

I’ve also added a master task list that I can pull from and add to each daily log as needed. This helps make sure that I don’t miss anything that came up during a meeting and that it doesn’t get “lost” in a collection.

Worth Your Time?

Yes - The book is great, but to be honest, I picked up the majority of the details of the program from Ryder’s YouTube channel and other social media venues. The book helps to lock it in and provides some additional insight and options.

Best For:

  • People who prefer paper note taking over digital systems, although the key components of the Bullet Method could be easily adapted to a digital platform
  • People who get overwhelmed by multiple to-do lists
